Football Spectators Again

Sorry.

Just another one of those questions floating around in my head is exactly why football supporters are quite happy to be complete hypocrites and can't understand what could possibly be wrong with it?

Here are a few examples for you:

A team 1 gets a penalty foul, which is clearly not a penalty foul after much video scrutiny. The referee gives it regardless, because he is unaware. Team 2 is furious, and cannot believe how Team 1 managed to get a penalty out of it. They believe they've been cheated and want to make a formal complaint to the Football Association.

Team 2 explains that that's just how football goes, and that sometimes the referee gets the decisions wrong.

My favourite expression that every football manager will use at least once in their careers:

It's just part of football.

Fine. If it's part of football, you won't mind if you're playing another team next week, and the reverse happens to you. The other team is awarded a penalty foul, and you as team 2 are now spitting blood over the incident, and are demanding the head of the referee.

Just how is this okay to act? I simply (as a football fan myself) cannot understand it.

I can't help but think that perhaps the attitude of the officials is then pushed upon the fans who then feel vindicated and able to say any old twaddle about how someone's leg being deliberately broken and the other player not punished is 'just a part of football'.

While we're on the subject, football chants never cease to amaze me.

"..and it's [insert team here], [insert team here] FC! And we are the best team the world has ever seen.."

The only teams able to accept this chant are Brazilian teams of yester-year and some teams that have enjoyed a lot of European success.

However, the teams that cannot chant this with even a hint of irony are Bristol City supporters. They are currently languishing in Division 3, and have been for many years since getting relegated just before the start of the new millenium.

The same goes for any other teams in the lower leagues that chant that song with a straight face. Grow up and think of a proper song to sing.
